The broad features of the Tatkal scheme are as under
:
1. The reservation under this scheme can be
sought by full fare paying passenger only and no passengers holding
concessional ticket is allowed to avail reservation under this
scheme.
2. For booking either a Credit Card of a Bank
with or without laser based photograph, or a laser laminated photo
identity card with a proper serial number or a voter identity card
with photograph, or a passport or a ration card with photograph or a
driving license with lesser laminated photograph or season tickets
identity card and Tatkal identity card issued by the railways would
constitute the authority for purchasing the ticket in Tatkal service
so that anti social elements do not corner the reservation on Tatkal
service.
3. On one identity card, the card holder can see
reservation for his /her family member by showing the card but in
case the card holder decides to cancel his / her reservation, the
reservation given to the other member of the family on the authority
of the card should also be cancelled which means that the members of
the family of the card holder can travel only if the identity card
holder is also traveling with them.
4. The premium of Tatkal scheme on different class
per passenger is as under

5. No refund is permissible on the confirmed
reservations made under Tatkal Scheme under normal circumstances.
6 After preparation of chart, the reservation will
be done on current counter specifically earmarked for Tatkal service
at the station from where the train is scheduled originate.
7. The identity card number of the passenger will
be printed/ entered on the ticket as well as on the tatkal coach
reservation chart. All passengers who have booked their tickets on
Tatkal Service are required to carry the requisite identity card on
which he has booked his/her ticket. Such passengers who fail to
produce the authority on the basis of which he/she has sought the
reservation under Tatkal scheme, will be treated as traveling without
ticket and penalty imposed as per extant rules applicable for the
train in which the passenger is traveling.
8. A Gazetted officer when he/she is satisfied in
exceptional circumstances may in emergent situation waive the
conditions prescribed for a photo identity card.
9 The reservation under this scheme will commence
from 8 am on the previous day for which the reservation is being
sought.

Note:- Tickets under the Tatkal scheme will be issued from
the starting station to the destination station of train. However, booking is
allowed enroute provided accommodation is available in the Tatkal coach.
