Computerized Reservation
For the Convenience of the passengers North Western Railway
has computerized many important reservation centers. Computerized terminals
are now available at 38 locations, where a passengers can make advance
reservation for a journey by any train originating from or passing through any
station on Indian Railway. Certain locations which had individual quotas have
now been merged into a common originating pool and now have access to a larger
number of berths. Enroute stations are covered through remote locations.
The working hours of computerized reservation office are
from 08.00 hrs. to 20.00 hrs. on Monday to Saturday and 8.00 hrs. to 14.00
hrs. on Sunday .Advance booking, allotment of lower berths and compact
accommodation for families and parties in a cubicle are done on first come
first served basis. Senior citizen 60 years of age and above are allotted
lower berths automatically subject to availability at the time of booking.
All the computerized reservation terminals have become
universal terminals. Return journey/onward journey tickets from all locations
can be made available from a single terminal. Enquiries of trains originating
and terminating from all locations can be made from any computerized enquiry
terminal.

Reservation Rules
PNR Number:
Passengers are requested to quote PNR
Number ( printed on each ticket on the top left hand side ) for any enquiry or
complaint relating to reservation.
Confirmed Reservation :
This implies that you hold a
confirm ticket with the coach and berth number indicated on the ticket.
However, for those traveling by AC first Class and First Class, the seat
/berth numbers will not be mentioned on the ticket.
Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) : The legend RC
appearing on tickets and the reservation chart indicated the RAC status. This
means that you are provided reserved sitting accommodation initially. On any
berths falling vacant due to cancellation or confirmed passengers not turning
up, you will be allotted a sleeper berth, according to priority.
Waitlisted Tickets:
If your ticket bears the legend WL,
it means that your ticket is not confirmed at the time of reservation. You
will then be required to check the status of your ticket after finalization of
the reservation chart to find out whether your tickets are confirmed.
Passengers holding waiting list tickets should not board the reserved coaches
without permission from the authorized staff, otherwise they may be detrained.
In Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express trains such passengers will be treated
as without ticket and charged extra.
Current Tickets:
Current tickets for traveling in
general compartment i.e. unreserved coach will be issued on the day of journey
before the departure of the train as per the prescribed notified time
exhibited at the stations.
ZERO VALUE TICKETS Reservation ticket issued by the
computerized system against pre bought tickets must be accompanied by the
journey tickets. Similarly, Journey-cum-reservation tickets bearing zero
amount are not valid for journey unless accompanied by the original document
authorizing issue of such tickets.
COMPACT ACCOMMODATION Provision of compact
accommodation is possible where a party is booked on one requisition slip
under the PNR Number provided the entire party is traveling upto the same
destination. This is, however, subject to availability of berths at the time
of booking. Waitlisted/RAC passengers of the same party may be allotted berths
in separate coaches in case accommodation is not available in the same coach.
RESERVATION CHARGES
Reservation fee varies for different class. The details are

The Reservation tickets are valid only for the particular
trains and the particular days for with they are issued. Reservation fees is
not refundable in the event of passenger failing to avail themselves of seats
or berths. Reservation fees will also be levied for children
Entitlement for children
Children under five years of age can travel free. Children
five years of age and below 12 will be charged half the fare for the journey,
but full reservation charges will be levied.
Liability
Railway Administration does not guarantee reserved
accommodation by any particular train and will admit no claim compensation or
inconvenience, loss of extra expenses due to such accommodation not being
provided as desired. Reserved Accommodation to Ladies and handicapped
persons:- In important trains, some unreserved accommodation has been set
apart for ladies.. In addition, certain sleeper class berths have also been
earmarked for ladies and handicapped persons. Boys under 12 years of age may
travel in ladies compartment with relatives or friends.
Special Counter
A special counter is provided at important Reservation
Office for booking reservation for cancer patient, handicapped persons,
reservation for members of parliament, members of Legislative Assembly etc.
They will be attended to separately at the same counters where general
passengers are dealt with. This facility is available only at places where
separate counters for them are not provided.
Permission to board at an enroute station
Passengers who have purchased tickets and have reserved
accommodation from a particular station but desire to entrain from another
station enroute are permitted to do so subject to the following conditions.
(i) A specific request must be made in writing to the
station from which the tickets was purchased at least 24 hrs. before the
booked departure of the train from that station.
(ii) The Railway reserves the right to use this
accommodation from the initial station upto station at which the passenger
is due to entrain.
(iii) No refund will be admissible for the portion of
journeys not performed. For example passengers buying tickets and
reserving accommodation from Jaipur may occupy that accommodation from
Gandhinagar /Durgapura provided the train has a halt at these stations.
Advance Reservation Period
Reservations are made 60 days in advance excluding the date
of journey at the train originating station uniformly for all classes and all
trains at all stations on North Western Railway .At the intermediate station
where the train arrives on the following day, such reservation can be made 61
days in advance of a the date of journey from originating station. In the case
of overseas tourists, reservations are made in all classes 360 days in
advance. No reservation will be made on telephonic request. If however in
response to any telephonic enquiries from the Reservation Office, information
is given by the office that accommodation is available at the time, it will be
upto the party concerned to secure that reservation by purchase of tickets
before it is taken up by any other party. The accommodation stated to be
available at the time of the enquiry over the telephone cannot be held for the
party and be denied to any other party, who may, in the meantime, ask for
reservation on production of tickets.
Accommodation will not be reserved without production of
necessary journey tickets. No reservation of accommodation will be made on a
provisional basis.
Acceptance of Reservation Forms:-0nly one requisition form
is accepted from a persons at a time for a maximum of six passengers. However
second requisition form will be accepted for return journey of the same
passenger.
Sleeping accommodation:- When berths are reserved for
passengers, the intention is to provide sleeping accommodation between 21.00
hrs. and 06.00 hrs. It must be distinctly understood that during the hours
from 06.00 hrs. to 21.00 hrs. the passengers concerned must, if requested,
make room for other passengers in the compartment upto its marked carrying
capacity.
Transfer or Re-sale of Reserved Accommodation
Transfer or re-sale of (i) rail journey tickets on which
reservation of berths/seats have been made,(ii)return tickets, and (iii)
season tickets, is punishable under the Railways act.1989. A journey ticket on
which reservation of a seat or berth has been made or on return journey ticket
or a season ticket is non-transferable, it should be used by the person in
whose favour it was issued between the stations specified on the ticket.
Tickets cannot be sold except by a Railway Servant or an agent authorized by
the Railway Administration such as recognized Travel Agents, City Booking
Agent, Out Agencies, etc. List of the authorized Rail Travel Service
Agents/Tourist Agents is given separately.
Any person committing a breach of the provisions indicated
above is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three
months or with a fine which may extend upto Rs.500 or with both and forfeiture
of the fare paid for the ticket. If the person is found traveling on such a
ticket, he will be treated as traveling without ticket and charged according
to the extent rules.
Entering the name of the children below the age of 5 years.
Children under 5 years of age travel free but no exclusive
accommodation will be provided to them. The details of children under 5 years
who are traveling must be recorded in the reservation application form for
future reference. These details should also be communicated to the TTE for
recording in the Chart.
Sleeper class services
(i) Sleeper Class reserved accommodation is provided on
a number of important Mail /Express and Passengers trains. Passengers
booked in this class (Reserved/RAC/Waitlisted) will be charged accordingly
including reservation fee in the fare. Also supplementary charges for
super fast trains wherever applicable will be recovered from all
passengers including waitlisted passengers.
(ii) ‘Sleeper Class’ being a higher class, a
passenger holding second Class Ordinarily or Second Class will have to pay
the difference between the fares of the two Classes as well as the excess
charge as per Rules.
(iii) Reservation of Berth available in sleeper Class
due to operation of specific quotas of Sleeper Berths allotted to certain
intermediate stations will be allotted to passengers traveling upto or
short of the station at which the quota is operated irrespective of the
distance restriction by such trains. Passengers will also be accommodated
in these coaches even though they may not have reserved their
accommodation, provided accommodation is available . When allotment of
berth is made under the above conditions by the TTE’s manning the coach
on the platform, the reservation fee will be collected.
(iv) A Special conductor or Traveling Ticket Examiner
will regulate the entry and exit of passengers so that the number of
passengers traveling in the coach does not at any stage, exceed the marked
carrying capacity to avoid overcrowding. The conductor will also look
after reasonable comfort and convenience of the passengers traveling in
the coach.,
Procedure for allotment of Accommodation to wait-listed
passengers at train starting stations:
(i) Reservation against Cancellation (R.A.C)
‘Passengers’ whose names figure under R.A.C are provided
reserved sitting accommodation initially and are likely to get berths against
cancellation arising due to last minute cancellation or passengers not turning
up at the time of departure of the train or earlier.
(ii) Accommodation available en-route to be allotted to
Passengers in the following order:-
(a) Passengers holding confirmed reservation not finding
their names in the reservation chart should be given first preference in
providing accommodation which may fall vacant during run of the train. They
should be allowed to travel in the same coach and allotted the first
available berth in preference to RAC passenger.
(b) Passengers who are traveling in the coach from the
starting station under “RAC” scheme.
(c) Passenger kept on the waiting list and allotted
vacant sitting accommodation from the starting station in the coach.
(d) Passengers kept on waiting list at the intermediate
station if room available.
Change of name of a passenger on confirmed reservation
ticket:
A change of name in reservation is permitted by the Station
Superintendent /Station Master or any Railway servant authorized by Railway
Administration on written requisition tendered by the party 24 hours prior to
the scheduled departure of the train in the following circumstances:
(i) Government servant proceeding on duty on production
of a letter from the appropriate authority.
(ii) Between family members due to unavoidable
circumstance., viz father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter,
husband, wife . No cancellation and reservation charges are recovered in
this case. The Station Master will be competent to permit alteration of
reservation under the condition mentioned above.
(iii) However, in case of group traveling together,
party’s written request should be tendered in writing 48 hours before
scheduled departure of the train and change of name is not permitted in
excess of 10 % of the total strength of the group/party.
Procedure for allotment of Reserved Accommodation to
Passengers from intermediate Stations and Outstations.:-
The intermediate station/outstations, which have been
allotted specific quotas will allot confirmed berth to the extent of the quota
straightway to the passengers intending to travel from the station. After the
quota is exhausted these stations and all other stations will send messages to
the reservation controlling station. Demand from intermediate stations and from
outstations in excess of such quotas will be considered by the reservation
controlling station after meeting the demands of the passenger at the counter at
the close of each day from the general quota. Much demands will be considered
along with local passengers in order of receipt of messages in the reservation
office.
Special Trains :-North Western Railway run special trains
during summer and winter holiday. Passenger may contact the reservation office
to know detailed schedule and reservation.
Rajdhani Express and Shatabdi Express:- Rajdhani express
and Shatabdi express have some exclusive features. The entire train is air
conditioned, Public Address system and Music System are available in all the
coaches and delicious and wholesome food is served at your seat/berth.
(i) Passengers are booked under R.A.C. in 2AC/3AC
Sleeper by 2957/58 Rajdhani express trains.
(ii) Waitlisted passenger(s) are not allowed to enter
any of the coaches of Rajdhani Express/Shatabdi Express. Passenger(s)
found traveling on these trains on waitlisted tickets shall be treated as
traveling without proper tickets and dealt with as per Rules. Such
passenger(s) shall be treated as traveling in reserved accommodation
without reservation in violation of Railways Act.1989. However, at
stations enroute, in case, the accommodation is available in train, the
train Superintendent/ Dy.Train Superintendent/Steward would grant
permission for passengers from enroute stations to board the train.
Accommodation would be given first as few waiting list and then on a first
come first served basis.
(iii) Passengers holding AC class of First Class
tickets by other trains who choose to travel in AC 3-Tier of Rajdhani
Express will not be entitled for the refund of the difference in fares.
(iv) Through passengers can travel by Rajdhani Express
between the authorized pair of stations on payment of requisite difference
in fares.
